MSN 25823, formerly registered G-BYGC, was one of three Boeing 747s to be given a special retro livery as part of British Airways’ 100th-anniversary celebrations. This aircraft received the BOAC paint scheme, which was worn by the first Boeing 747s to be delivered to British Airways over half a century ago.

This aircraft was also the last 747 to fly with a British Airways call sign, leaving London Heathrow alongside G-CIVB on December 11th, 2020, as BA747. G-BYGC flew for British Airways between January 19th, 1999, and April 4th, 2020. In these 21 years, the aircraft clocked up 91,024 flight hours (equivalent to 10.39 years in the skies) across 11,051 flight cycles. This means that its average flight length was 08h14m.

It has been confirmed that the BOAC liveried British Airways Boeing 747-400 aircraft, parked up at St Athan in Wales, is in the process of being dismantled. The aircraft was the last Boeing 747 to fly with the British Airways callsign, with its final flight on December 11th, 2020.

Photos shared on Twitter appear to show CCTV footage of G-BYGC being dismantled. ecube, an aircraft dismantling company based at St Athan, confirmed to Simple Flying today that they are dismantling the Queen of the Skies.

The news has been met with anger from many aviation enthusiasts who had hoped that eCube would fulfil their obligations and preserve the aircraft but after a number of years sat in a closed off area and all requests to visit rebutted, images started to emerge of the aircraft being cut up and parted out.
